My mother painted this piece to capture the picturesque tranquility of the Italian countryside by the water. She was inspired by the charm of small white coastal villages nestled beneath grand, towering mountains. I love how she placed the lonely sailboat gliding peacefully across the emerald lake—it creates a wonderful sense of calm and quiet wanderlust.
She chose a vibrant, refreshing palette dominated by rich emerald greens and deep alpine browns, beautifully set against the bright white of the village houses. The diagonal composition leads your eye naturally from the village in the foreground, across the smooth water, and up toward the snow-dusted mountain peak, giving the artwork a uplifting sense of scale and harmony.
