I painted this piece as a way to hold onto a view I wasn't ready to let go of. At my former workplace, my office window overlooked the sea, and that ocean view became a daily part of my life. When we moved to a new building without that backdrop, I felt a deep urge to bring the ocean with me. During a lunch break on that transition day, I rushed down to the beach, took a quick photo, and returned to capture the moment right away. Blending that photograph with my immediate memory and emotion from that day, I created this painting to keep that precious landscape close to my heart.
To capture the exact atmosphere of that day, I chose a color palette that mirrors both the mood of the storm and a feeling of optimism. I blended deeper, moody blues and muted slate tones that reflected my state of mind with soft, luminous highlights of light blue and creamy whites that represent hope. Through layered textures and a wide, open horizon, I wanted to craft a piece that brings the grounding, soulful presence of the sea directly into any room.
